Top Tips For Teaching Yoga In Schools: Tip #32: Prepare, Practice, Present

Welcome back to the blog!

I took last weekend off from sharing a new blog post, as I’m currently on vacation with my family, and needed a Sunday to be present and recharge.

It’s funny how even on vacation, I’m drawn to working on my business. When it’s something that you love, it doesn’t feel like work, right?

Anyway, while this may be true for you too, it’s important for us to be able to translate our passion and love for teaching yoga in schools when we’re meeting with school leaders, which brings us to this week’s tip on the importance of preparing, practicing, and presenting.

Enjoy, and please feel free to share this post with others or leave a comment below!

Tip #32: Prepare, Practice, Present

Without further ado, I want to talk about the three P’s today: prepare, practice, present.  It’s one thing for a school to express interest in your program, but it’s another thing for them to sit down with you in an interview! When that happens, you want to be prepared!

As you prepare for interviews, think about what you would want to know if you were a school administrator. Write those questions down, and then find someone in your life who can ask you those questions in a practice interview.

Here are a few questions to prepare answers to that will get you started thinking like a school administrator:

“Why do my students need this program?”

“What will each session look like?”

“What prior experience do you have teaching kids / in a school setting?”

These are all questions that I was asked by almost every principal I spoke to when I was interviewing for full-time positions almost a decade ago.

Practice as if you were in a real interview with a school administrator.

Keep your answers short, concise, and detailed enough to highlight your skills and strengths.

Then, you’ll be ready to present your program with passion when the time comes.

You may only get 15-minutes to showcase yourself and your program, so spending this valuable time now will help ensure you’re able to land your dream job teaching yoga in schools.

Tip Takeaway: Preparing questions and practicing answering them will help you present clearly in real-life interviews. Think of 5-10 questions a school administrator may ask you, and then find someone to do a “mock” interview with to get your answers as clear and concise as possible.
