Top Tips For Teaching Yoga In Schools - Tip #38: Your Why Is Your Way In

Hi there,

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on the blog!

These first 8 weeks of school have been a whirlwind, and I’ve found it hard to keep up with so much other stuff as I get my sea legs back under me. My inbox has ballooned, my house needs to be cleaned, and this blog needs some love and attention.

I’m finally starting to emerge a bit from the exhaustion and overwhelm, and am happy to be back blogging for you today!

I just started the newest session of Land Your Dream Job Teaching Yoga In Schools, my 6-week online course, and we’ve spent the first two weeks thinking and talking about our why.

So today, I want to share with you the importance of getting clear on your why, and how it’s one of the key elements that will help you get in the door.

Enjoy, and as always, leave a comment if this resonates with you!

Tip #38: Your Why is Your Way In

While the school year just started, now is often the time when many kids yoga teachers begin thinking about second semester and next school year, and start having conversations with school administrators.

Whether you want to teach before school, after school, full-time, or offer sessions during the school year, NOW is the time to start reaching out to school administrators and putting feelers out for second semester programming.

If you’re feeling like you don’t know where to start, need guidance on what to say and how to say it, or want support on how to structure your programming for next year, I’m here for you! My 1:1, personalized mentorship program is tailored to your needs, and I have space for only 3 more mentorship clients this fall / winter! If that sounds like you, fill out the intake form and we can get started.

As you approach schools this year and prepare for conversations with school administrators, I want to remind you of the importance of reconnecting with your why.

Your why is what brings you to this work.

It’s why you feel so strongly about offering yoga to kids in a school setting, and it’s the reason you embarked on this path in the first place. But so often, we lose sight of our why along the way as we get bogged down in curriculum planning, behavior management, or figuring out the logistics of getting from one school the next, to the next in one day.

Your why is your way in the door. It’s the reason you’re doing this work, and If you can clearly articulate your why to a school administrator, your passion will shine through. And when you’re showing up in an interview, and able to clearly state why you’re there, with genuine passion and enthusiasm, it becomes a lot harder for administrators to say no, and a lot easier for them to say yes.

Tip Takeaway: Take a few minutes in the next few weeks to reconnect to your why and ask yourself, “Why is it that I do this work?” Write down. Practice saying it out loud to your friends and family members. Get to a point where it becomes so much a part of you that you’re able to clearly articulate your why in 1-2 sentences. And remember, your why is your way in.
